The ranch is a simple place. While this majestic, natural lifestyle is painted idyllic, It is also lonely, boring, and where stories of small-mindedness and inbreeding seem to stem from. Fuck Mtn.’s premier solo exhibition at RECESS balances tragedy and fantasy. With motifs birthed from language, the news, and popular history, the works in Ranch take form in sculpture, video, and installation.
Fuck Mtn. formed in the back of a gay strip club in Portland, Oregon during the summer of 2010. This close-knit group of mother lovers loves their mothers very much. Through conversation and random utterances, various themes emerge that the core group - along with its various deputized members - use as fodder to explore the material and conceptual processes that intrigue them. Fuck Mtn. makes things that continually vacillate between political correctness and the offensive; between the satirical and the genuine. In turn, their work has been referred to as “hate crime” by the dean of a major university and “visionary” by a retired Jewish couple in Southern California. Fuck Mtn. has exhibited at a number of distinguished venues such as Ditch Projects, the Portland Art Museum, and Portland State University.
