RECESS Benefit

Goodbye Oregon Brass Works building!

RECESS is having a fundraising event to help offset the cost of moving into a new space and continuing our programming.

For the past three years, RECESS has operated out of the second floor of the Oregon Brass Works building on SE 10th and Salmon Street. Without comment or discussion, the building’s owners have decided not to renew the lease with RECESS.

Although this location is near and dear to our hearts, we want to treat this news as an opportunity to search for a better location. RECESS has also grown and changed significantly over the past four years and maybe it is time to look for a space that will match those changes. This is something that we’ve been through before. Upon losing our tenancy within the Artistery (RIP) in 2011, we were able to find our current location which meant we had a space dedicated solely to our programming and exhibitions. Hopefully our new location will provide us with even more space for growth.

We’re searching now for a new place to land, and for now our programming is going on hiatus. If you come across a vacant commercial space in SE Portland with ADA accessibility that looks like it could be our new home, feel free to send us a note. In the meantime, we hope you can make it to our salutory/fundraising event at Holocene on Tuesday, May 27th at 8pm. We’ll have a few great musical acts and contemporary dance performances.. Otherwise, we welcome your suggestions and support of any kind during this transitional period.
